Byd updates the Seagull, an electric model sold in Italy under the name Byd Dolphin Surf

In China Byd has opened orders for the 2026 model of the Seagull, marketed in Italy under the name of Byd Dolphin Surf. The 2026 update brings with it small aesthetic changes and some slightly more substantial changes from a technical point of view, focusing in particular on safety features and useful measures to increase the overall efficiency of the electric powertrain and battery.

DOLPHIN SURF 2026: WHAT’S NEW

The dimensions of the car remain unchanged, so the Dolphin Surf remains to all intents and purposes an electric A-segment. Externally, revisions are limited to the adoption of unpublished ones 16-inch alloy wheels called “Starlight” and the update of the LED rear lighting unit, which now has a new design for the luminous logo. Two new colors for the bodywork are added to the colors now available, particular shades of orange and green, which complement the colors already in the range. Entering the cabin, the new upholstery and color scheme called Oatmeal Ricerice and oatmeal. The most visible update concerns the system’s central display infotainmentwhose diagonal grows from 10 inches to the new 12.8 inches (the definition also increases). The system is managed by DiLink 150 software, which provides 3D vehicle control and customized navigation features. Also arriving are 50W wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats and a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. As regards safety and technology, however, the main innovation is the debut, as an optional equipment, of the DiPilot 300 driving assistance suite, integrated within the package called “God’s Eye B”. This system involves the installation of a LiDAR sensor on the top of the windshield and allows advanced functions such as City Navigation on Autopilot (Cnoa), traffic light recognition and automatic management of roundabouts. In terms of engines, all trims share a single front electric motor capable of developing 74 HP (55 kW) of maximum power and 135 Nm of torque. There are two battery sizes available at launch: one of 30.08 kWh, with a range of 305 km in the CLTC cycle, and one of 38.88 kWh, for a range of 405 km. BYD has also announced the future introduction of a variant capable of exceeding 500 kilometers of autonomy.

DOLPHIN SURF 2026: PRICES

In China the car is offered in four distinct trim levels. The offer opens with the Vitality Edition from 30 kWh, offered at 69,900 yuan (equal to approximately 8,700 euros). We then move on to Freedom Edition from 30 kWh, offered at 78,900 yuan (9,800 euros). With the same amount of 78,900 yuan you can opt for the Zizai Editionwhich however features the larger 39 kWh battery. At the top of the list is the Flying Edition from 39 kWh, on sale at 85,900 yuan (10,700 euros). The package God’s Eye B including LiDAR is not standard and requires an additional outlay of 12,000 yuan (around 1,500 euros).

WILL IT ARRIVE IN ITALY?

Currently there is no official indication on which markets the new version will be sold on Byd Dolphin Surfand for now there are no communications regarding its arrival in Europe. However, the fact that this model is already being sold in Italy today, and with good results, suggests that at least some of the innovations just launched in China will also arrive in our country in a future update of the European price list.
