Borussia Dortmund is looking for a striker. A player from FC Barcelona could also play a role.
Borussia Dortmund is reportedly in contact with Barcelona striker Memphis Depay. This is reported by the Spanish sports newspaper “Sport”. According to this, either a loan or a free transfer from the Dutch international could be considered for BVB. Depay’s contract expires in 2023. FC Barcelona is said to be demanding 20 million euros for its striker. So far, no club is willing to pay the sum.
After Sébastien Haller was diagnosed with a canine tumor and it was clear that the Westphalians will be absent for some time, BVB is looking for a new goalscorer. “Ideally, something should happen in the next eight to ten days,” said managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke in an interview with “sportschau.de”. After Haller’s absence, only 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko is left as a centre-forward in the professional squad.
But it is also clear: Depay would not be the preferred solution for Borussia Dortmund. The club is looking for a Haller-like type of player, a powerful striker. Cologne’s Anthony Modeste would fit into the advertised profile of the BVB bosses. If he can’t be signed, the guy will probably sign another player. Depay’s obligation therefore seems rather unlikely.
