BVB wants another full-back – alternative for Bensebaini & Ryerson

“Image” report

Borussia Dortmund has adequate personnel in almost every position, as a look at the Transfermarkt statistics “squad by position” shows. Those responsible for the “Picture“according to it, it’s settled. As the paper reports, coach Edin Terzic and Co. want a top-class alternative for the defensive flanks. The coach would always provide relevant thought processes internally. The profile we are looking for includes that the new full-back is technically adept and, like Raphaël Guerreiro (29), who moved to FC Bayern on a free transfer, can also play a creative role in building up the game.

In theory, this position is sufficiently well-stocked at Dortmund. New signing Ramy Bensebaini (28, from Borussia Mönchengladbach) on the left and Julian Ryerson (25) on the right have come to the fore as solutions. The first alternative is Marius Wolf, who was seeded in the second half of the season. The 28-year-old has been in the starting eleven four times across all competitions in 2023/24.

However, the eliminated Belgian Thomas Meunier (32, about to return from a muscle injury) and the re-injured Spaniard Mateu Morey (23) are currently not options in practice. Both Wolf, Meunier and Morey are tied until 2024 and will not receive any new contracts as of now. It is said that because none of these professionals could be sold last summer, it was not possible to add another full-back. Terzic and sports director Sebastian Kehl would now push for such a player. Although the budget for this should still be manageable.

When asked about the need for action in the Transfermarkt BVB forum, the defensive wing is the most frequently mentioned position. User “regionalLove” wrote: “I can think of many positions we should trade on. But in my opinion the most urgent need for action is in attack and at right-back. And “JurgStilz” said: “We finally need fast and technically strong AVs who can take the pressure off the team when building up the game.”
