Despite advertising from other Bundesliga clubs such as Eintracht Frankfurt or from abroad, defensive talent Elias Benkara (18) has decided to stay at Borussia Dortmund. The 1.93 meter tall central defender, who has been a regular at BVB II since the end of January and whose contract expired, signed a professional contract until June 30, 2029.
“The contract extension with Elias confirms our desire to promote talent from our own offspring,” said Ingo Preuß, sporting director of the U23, and added: “We are pleased that he is continuing on this path with us.”
Benkara moved from Mainz 05’s youth team to Dortmund in 2021, became B junior champion there in 2024 and, when fit, was always one of the top performers in his year. However, his professional debut is still pending, although the Frankfurt native was already nominated for the Algerian senior national team last November. BVB coach Niko Kovac took Benkara to the Club World Cup last summer and called him up to the matchday squad three times in the current season, in which he also struggled with injuries.
