Weak performance in Bergamo

The Borussia Dortmund professionals stood stunned in front of their fans and could hardly understand the last-minute nightmare in the premier class. After a weak performance and a penalty goal conceded in added time, BVB bowed out of the Champions League early and suffered a multi-million dollar setback. In the playoff second leg at Atalanta Bergamo, Dortmund lost a two-goal lead and deservedly lost 1:4 (0:2).
“It hurts extremely,” said captain Emre Can. “No blame on any player. But if you make so many individual mistakes, then it will be difficult to progress. We were very unhappy in the end, but if you’re honest, we deserved to not progress.”
BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel apologized after the final whistle. “That was my mistake in the end,” he admitted. “I’m sorry for the boys.” For coach Niko Kovac, the end was “unnecessary. The bottom line is that we didn’t play a good game today.”
