Borussia Dortmund loses against FC Bayern. Niko Kovač’s team first hid, then woke up too late.
Borussia Dortmund lost against FC Bayern. After 90 minutes it was 1:2 (0:1) from BVB’s point of view, who initially positioned themselves deep in their own half. Under the eyes of national coach Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern started as expectedly dominant and combined happily along the Dortmund penalty area without any major resistance from the guests.
Michael Olise (3rd minute and 11th) and Joshua Kimmich (4th) were initially denied by BVB keeper Gregor Kobel. After a corner from Kimmich, Harry Kane evaded his guards Niklas Süle and Serhou Guirassy, also with the help of a minimal push, and nodded in for the deserved lead.
And Dortmund? Remained too scared and harmless. Only a header from Nico Schlotterbeck from 18 meters rolled towards Manuel Neuer’s goal (39′). After the final whistle, the BVB captain struggled with his team’s weak first half. “To survive in Munich, you have to play with courage, play with balls. We missed that in the first half. We didn’t have a duel.”
Things became more balanced after the break. Ramy Bensebaini replaced Süle – and BVB became more aggressive. The shots from Felix Nmecha (49th) and Guirassy (59th) were too imprecise, Karim Adeyemi shot at his own mainstay from a central position (65th).
“In the second half we were better than Bayern. But over 90 minutes it wasn’t enough,” Schlotterbeck continued. The central defender couldn’t prevent the defeat, but he did his job confidently on defense. The 0:2 came inconveniently thanks to Olise, who maneuvered the ball into the goal with a tackle after a rescue attempt by substitute Jobe Bellingham on the line. Joker Julian Brandt at least ensured an exciting final phase with his goal.
BVB continues next weekend against 1. FC Köln (Saturday, from 6:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker). Bayern are currently visiting Borussia Mönchengladbach.
