BVB star Julian Brandt has lost six kilos due to illness

Julian Brandt is one of BVB’s key players. But recently the offensive man was missing twice. The reason: an intense flu.

BVB star Julian Brandt is fighting for match fitness after a severe case of flu. In a live conversation with the streamer “Montana Black,” Brandt said: “It’s not that easy with the air.” When asked what kind of illness he had, the 27-year-old replied: “It’s not entirely clear. In terms of symptoms, it was a severe flu.”

Brandt was missing against Bochum (3-1) at the end of January and in the 0-0 draw in Heidenheim at the beginning of February. He celebrated his comeback in the 3-0 win over Freiburg last Friday, but was lighter than before the illness. According to his own statement, Brandt lost six kilos. “I had a fever for eight days. That takes time. Then you get impatient, stare at the wall, don’t eat anything. That’s not all that great for football.”

“Then come the interesting weeks”

But now Brandt has his sights firmly set on the upcoming games. At the weekend, BVB will face VfL Wolfsburg away before taking on PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. Things will be particularly exciting after the international break in March. “Then come the interesting weeks, Leverkusen, Bavaria,” said Brandt.

Within five weeks, BVB will face the four strongest teams in the league alongside Dortmund themselves. Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are waiting for the national player’s team from the end of March. In between, Dortmund have to go to Mönchengladbach for the Borussia duel.

Then it will become clear whether BVB will actually be in a Champions League place at the end of the season. Missing out on qualifying could pose financial problems for coach Edin Terzić’s team.
