He was a World Cup participant and was considered a great German storm hope. But Youssoufa Moukoko’s promising career got a big kink. Now he is in front of the end in Dortmund.

A few years ago, Youssoufa Moukoko was one of the largest storm talents in Europe. Now the 20-year-old is deeper than ever in the crisis. Borussia Dortmund awarded him to OGC Nice in France last summer – with the hope that he could play there regularly. But the plan did not work: only 199 minutes in the league and two goals are available for the highly assessed attacker. His last short assignment dates from February 4 against Toulouse.

Under these circumstances, the fact that Nice will pull the purchase option anchored in the loan agreement over 15 million euros. Means: In the summer he returns to BVB after the loan ended. But there is apparently no perspective there either. As the “picture” reports, Moukoko should be handed in as soon as possible – also to save its lush content of 8.5 million euros per year. The attacker is one of the top earners at BVB, but has not been delivering any sporting arguments for months.

Therefore, a sale at a comparatively small price is conceivable. With a current market value of around ten million euros – in 2022 there were still 30 – Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl will not make any high demands, the report said. Rather, the focus is on a quick separation.

In youth, Moukoko caused a sensation, scored 137 goals for the youngsters of BVB in 81 games. At just 16 years and a day, he became the youngest Bundesliga player in history at the away game at Union Berlin. In 2022, as the youngest player in the German squad, he even drove to the World Cup in Qatar. But then the sporting crash followed.

At BVB he could never prevail, and the detour via Nice did not lead to success. Even with the U21 national team, it was no longer taken into account. National coach Antonio Di Salvo said: “With Youssouufa it was a sporting decision.” The striker always performed there, scored 13 goals in 15 missions.

Now Moukoko has to take a restart that starts his career again. In Dortmund, despite the contract, he will probably no longer get an opportunity until 2026.
