Trouble at Borussia Dortmund: The focus is on the commitment of the Portuguese newcomer from England.

Fábio Silva is there – at least on paper. The Portuguese transfer to Borussia Dortmund was considered a change coup. According to a report by the “Sport Bild”, the club initiated the talks with the 23-year-old early, namely at the beginning of July, and was able to convince him of a move to BVB at the end.

But as soon as the agreement was perfect, a detail apparently caused considerable resentment in the club. Because at the mandatory medical check at the end of August, it was only to be light: Silva was operated on this summer – this had not been known to BVB until then.

Team doctor Dr. Markus Braun informed the management directly after the medical check. Accordingly, sports managing director Lars Ricken was upset and also clearly expressed this internally.

Another point that was considered critically in the internal follow -up: During the entire transfer negotiations there was probably no personal meeting with the player. According to the report, the talks were exclusively digital. In the assessment of those responsible, a direct exchange might have brought clarity to the state of health earlier.

Despite the incident, BVB decided to do the transfer in the end. Together with sports director Sebastian Kehl, the decision was made in favor of the deal – also because no replacement was available at short notice. When Fábio Silva can play his first BVB game is still unclear.
