BVB makes an offer for a defensive edge

With the commitments of the German internationals Nico Schlotterbeck from SC Freiburg and Niklas Süle from FC Bayern, BVB has already strengthened its defense in a top-class manner for the coming season. According to a recent media report, another central defender could be transferred to Dortmund.

Defensive edge Joseph Okumu is to be signed by the Belgian first division club KAA Gent. At least that’s what the Kenyan newspaper reported “People Daily” on Thursday. The source referred to one of the advisors of the 1.93 m giant.

“We had informal interest from English club Arsenal and Scottish giants Celtic, but German club Borussia Dortmund are the first to make an official request,” the player’s confidant was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Joseph Okumu only switched to KAA Gent in the first Belgian league last summer, where he had signed a contract until 2025. In his first season in Belgium, the 25-year-old established himself as the undisputed regular in central defense and played 47 competitive games for the ex-Champions League club in all competitions.

BVB could still lose Akanji in the direction of England

“The player is open to a move if a reasonable agreement is reached,” the Okumu agent told the newspaper.

Especially if Manuel Akanji says goodbye, the personnel for Borussia Dortmund could actually get really hot. The Swiss is associated with a departure towards the Premier League. Since Dan-Axel Zagadou and Marin Pongracic have already left BVB, there would be further need for action by the black and yellow in this case.

How expensive the Kenyan international would be in case of doubt, there was no reliable information until recently. However, it is certain that several top clubs from the top European leagues have now targeted the defender – despite his contract term in Gent until 2025.
