Borussia Dortmund’s “football god” Jürgen Kohler has once again criticized defense chief Nico Schlotterbeck. This time it’s about the 26-year-old’s behavior in BVB’s 2-3 defeat against FC Bayern in the Bundesliga classic.

The stumbling block for Kohler: Schlotterbeck’s foul on Josip Stanisic, which led to the penalty and the second goal for the German record champions by Harry Kane (70th).

“Nico actually has the better position,” analyzed the former world-class central defender in “One-two” by “Sport1”. “Then I just have to move to the inside so that Stanisic can no longer take the inside lane. I just have to turn in. Nico actually goes to the ball the wrong way. That shouldn’t happen so often to a really good defender. But that’s what happened.”

Schlotterbeck’s performance with regard to individual dropouts has “already gotten significantly better,” emphasized Kohler. “But he still has a pattern.”

According to Kohler, the BVB professional is not alone in this. Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah from FC Bayern also have “patterns that have not yet been ideally solved”.

BVB: Schlotterbeck and Co. are “still missing something”

The two Munich players and Schlotterbeck are “good defensive players, but something is still missing to become top defensive players,” stated Kohler.

Most recently, the 60-year-old also expressed criticism of Schlotterbeck’s hesitant attitude towards the future.

“It’s clear that he’s exploring his options, but I don’t like the fact that he’s taking so much time. In Dortmund he has a fantastic audience, international games and very good chances of developing into a face of the club,” wrote Kohler in a “kicker” column.

Schlotterbeck’s contract with BVB expires in 2027. If he doesn’t commit to the black and yellow team in the long term, there is a possibility of a sale next summer.
