BVB extends with courted keeper

Borussia Dortmund sets the course for the future. As BVB announced on Tuesday, goalkeeper Luca Unbehaun’s contract will be extended.

Luca Unbehaun will also put on the goalkeeper gloves for Borussia Dortmund in the 2022/23 season. BVB extended the keeper’s working paper by another year. This means that a free transfer in the summer is off the table.

The 20-year-old came to BVB in 2016 from the U17s of VfL Bochum. In 2017/18 he won the B youth championship with the black and yellow juniors, and in the following season he won the title with the U19s.

Promotion to the 3rd league with the BVB U23s

For more than two years, Unbehaun has also been the goalkeeper of the U23 team, which was promoted to the 3rd division last season.

In the professional squad of Borussia Dortmund he is planned as the third goalkeeper behind Gregor Kobel and Marwin Hitz.

Ex-main goalkeeper Roman Bürki had moved behind Unbehaun in the hierarchy and should leave BVB in the summer.

BVB: Several interested parties for Luca Unbehaun

Unbehaun has made 13 appearances for the second team this season. First, a tear in the syndesmosis threw him back, followed by a hand injury and a corona infection. It wasn’t until early February that he celebrated his comeback in the 3rd division in a 3-1 win against MSV Duisburg.

With the extension of goalkeeper talent at BVB, a move to another club is off the table for the time being.

According to “Ruhr Nachrichten”, some Bundesliga clubs were after Unbehaun last summer. Interest is said to have existed from Union Berlin and TSG Hoffenheim.

In order to have a long-term chance of a regular place in Borussia’s A squad, the youngster must first deliver consistently good performances in the substructure. BVB’s U23s are in a strong seventh place after 27 games and are only four points behind the relegation place.
