Despite a shaky final phase, Borussia Dortmund celebrated the redeeming first Bundesliga victory in the new year.
Three days after the 3-1 against Schachtar Donetsk in the Champions League, the heavily battered eight-time German football champion won 2-1 (1-0) at the 1,4th FC Heidenheim at risk of relegation.
Goal hunter Serhou Guirassy (33rd minute) and substitute German striker Maximilian Beier (63.) met for BVB (Borussia Dortmund). Mathias Honsak (64th) was only able to shorten the initially very defensive, but increasingly brave Heidenheimer in front of 15,000 spectators in the second half.
For BVB, the negative series of four winless league games ended in succession, for Mike Tullberg the time as an interim coach. The Dane, who won two victories and a draw in his three games as head of the Dortmund professionals, handed over to the new coach Niko Kovac on Sunday and returns to the U19 of Borussia. BVB dominant, but rarely dangerous
As expected, BVB took control from the start and had almost 90 percent possession of the ball in the first 25 minutes. Dangerously in front of the gate, the guests rarely came against extremely low -leaning Heidenheimers. FCH keeper Kevin Müller just parried a low shot by Jamie Gitten, who had moved into the penalty area via the left side (9th). Later, Gittens made steam on the grand piano a few times – but the last pass at BVB was too imprecise despite all the ball safety.
Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt had prophesied that the Dortmund would play the game due to their bring -up debt. His team, apart from a long -range shot from Omar Traoré (15th), acted very passively before the break – and was punished for it after a good half an hour.
The hosts could not clarify a corner from Julian Rerson. Dortmund’s Waldemar Anton claimed the ball, brought it to the five -meter room – and Guirassy sank it flat in the left corner. For Guineas national strikers it was the ninth league goal this season. In all three games under Tullberg, he met – against Donetsk in the Champions League, even twice.
Joker stinging on both sides
In the second half, the Heidenheimers went on the front and researchers. Dortmund’s defense, which has rarely stood stable for over 90 minutes in the current season and this time also had to do without the blocked international Nico Schlotterbeck, got more to do.
So the goal of the Beier, who had just been substituted, did not bring the preliminary decision in favor of BVB after Ramy Bensebaini prepared. Instead, Heidenheim’s Honsak, who also scored as a Joker, only made an exciting last half hour a moment later. The FCH tried, but Dortmund brought the second league away win of the season to the finish.
Kehl about BVB access: ‘Work on some things’
Borussia Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl has promised access until the end of the transfer window on Monday evening. “I will not comment on names now. You won’t expect that. But we are working on some things,” Kehl told the Pay TV station Sky after the 2-1 (1-0) at 1. FC Heidenheim. It was the first victory in the Bundesliga in 2025 for the troublesome BVB before the new coach Niko Kovac takes over from interim coach Mike Tullberg on Sunday.

“And if we are considering whether we can still put an impulses or two, we will do so. Otherwise we have confidence in this team, in the new team of coaches that we will make points until the end of the season,” said Kehl. BVB is currently in tenth place and would therefore not be qualified for the European Cup.
