BVB complains about the next failure before the cup duel at FC St. Pauli

Emre Can suffered a muscle injury in the adductor area during BVB’s 5-1 thrashing of SC Freiburg on Friday evening and had to be replaced at half-time. On Sunday, Borussia Dortmund informed about the absence of its defensive all-rounder.

Like BVB on his club homepage announced that head coach Marco Rose’s team will be unavailable for at least two games. “Emre Can will be missing for BVB in the two games next week,” said the club’s statement after the break against Breisgau was over for the central defender.

The black and yellow will have to do without the German international in both the DFB Cup game at FC St. Pauli on Tuesday evening (from 8:45 p.m.) and in the league game at TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday (from 3:30 p.m.).

Even before the turn of the year, the 28-year-old had been complaining about muscular problems for a long time and was out for weeks. In the season so far, he has only played in 15 of BVB’s 28 possible competitive games, scoring two goals in the current Bundesliga season.

Meunier’s appearance in the cup at FC St. Pauli is also still questionable

In the game against Freiburg, right-back and double goal scorer Thomas Meunier also had to be replaced in the second half. It was not yet clear on Sunday evening whether the Belgian would also have to pass for the cup duel with the leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga.

After all: With central defender Manuel Akanji, one of the most important defensive pillars at BVB had recently reported fully operational again. He came on as a second-half substitute for Emre Can on Friday night after undergoing knee surgery ahead of the Christmas break.
