BVB coach reacts emotionally after promotion

Patrick Fritsch was once considered a great hope for youngsters at Borussia Dortmund, having played for BVB in the Youth League and the A-Youth Bundesliga, among others. After serious knee injuries, the dream of a professional career burst before Fritsch focused on his second career as a coach – with success.

The now 24-year-old has been a coach in BVB’s youth department for several years and worked until recently as an assistant coach in Dortmund’s U17 team.

His work was so well received that head coach Mike Tullberg has now promoted him a junior class up to the Bundesliga team – also as an assistant coach.

In an interview with the “Ruhr Nachrichten”, Fritsch himself was delighted about the next rung on his career ladder: “I am grateful for this appreciation. The fact that the club enables me to work as an assistant coach for the U19s is something special. “

Fritsch is looking forward to his new job at BVB

Mike Tullberg himself, who was last German runner-up with BVB’s A-Youth and had reached the quarter-finals of the Youth League, had arranged for the ex-talent to be promoted.

“Patrick is very hardworking and ambitious. He lives the club and can develop a good relationship with the young players. […] We are very well positioned in the coaching team for the new season,” Tullberg was quoted as saying in the “Ruhr Nachrichten”.

For the Selmer native, the desire to work as a football coach has become more and more entrenched in recent years: “In my three years with the U17s, I realized that this is something I really want to do,” confirmed Fritsch.

The U19 selection of the black and yellow will start again in the Bundesliga West in the coming season. There she became West German Champion in 2022/2023 before she lost the final of the German Championship against 1. FSV Mainz 05 (2:4 aet).
