BVB “can’t be driven” in the case of Hummels

After the contract extension with Marco Reus, sports director Sebastian Kehl has not announced any new status regarding the future of Mats Hummels at Borussia Dortmund.

“We are also in close contact with Mats, but we don’t have to emphasize it every day and don’t have to give water level reports every day,” said Kehl before the away game at VfL Bochum on “DAZN”.

They are pursuing the big goal of the championship title, “every player is subordinate to it,” emphasized the BVB sports director: “Nevertheless, of course we have to work on issues, and we’ve done that in the past, step by step. We don’t let ourselves drift there either .” Hummels (34) only has one contract in Dortmund until the end of the season.

Reus (33) extended his expiring contract by another year on Thursday, even though he is currently not a regular player. The offensive player was not part of the Dortmund starting XI against Bochum either.

“He is a role model for this club, for our city, for our fans and ultimately the captain of this team,” enthused Kehl. Reus has “accepted” his current role and is doing everything “so that we can be successful. That’s why we are very happy that the contract has been extended”.
