Advisor suggests farewell
Despite the current contract until 2024, left-back Nico Schulz at Borussia Dortmund is one of the candidates selected for an early change. After the day before the winter transfer window closed, the 29-year-old’s advisor, Roger Wittmann, explained on “Bild-TV” that a farewell was now considered the best solution from a player’s point of view, the portal “sports1” after. Accordingly, the Schulz representatives are in talks with the Italian first division club Atalanta BC.
“Where can I answer right away, we don’t know that yet. I believe this is an unhappy marriage that must surely end in divorce. (…) It wasn’t exactly the best year in his life for him in general, but we’re actually trying to solve it properly,” Wittmann said, citing “Bild” on Monday afternoon, among other things, at “The West‘ as quoted regarding his client’s future. According to “Sport1”, the interested Atalanta wants to complete a possible deal with BVB on Deadline Day.
Schulz, who was also linked with Lazio earlier this year, has Italian roots through his father. Born in Berlin, who switched from TSG Hoffenheim to Borussia Dortmund for 25.5 million euros in 2019, he was sorted out by Westphalia in the summer. In the current Bundesliga season, Schulz has not played a game for coach Edin Terzic’s first eleven. The defender’s record currently includes a total of 61 competitive games and one goal for Dortmund.
With Julien Duranville and Julian Ryerson, BVB had signed two fresh players for the right flank in the current transfer window, but had not yet made any players available (see Dortmund transfer overview). In Bergamo, currently table 4. in Serie A, twelve-time national player Schulz could become the first winter signing.
