The relocation requires a tightly coordinated approach. First the mast is removed, then the ship is carefully lifted out of the water and placed on a low loader. The vessel then drives at walking pace through the narrow streets of the old village towards the center.
Once arrived, the botter is unloaded and festively decorated with lights, Christmas trees and banners. According to skipper Arnold Schipper, the aim of the operation is to bring the sailing heritage closer to the people of the area. He is visibly proud when the boat is finally in place: “I’ll take a look every day.”
The ship will remain on display for a week on the Oude Raadhuisplein in the village of Huizen.
