It is not known what caused the bus to drive off the viaduct. According to Italian media, the vehicle drove through a fence and then fell at least 10 meters. The bus ended up on a railway line. Local authorities in Venice have activated the ‘major emergency’ protocol. The fire brigade is still busy extinguishing the fire.
