Bus drivers are allowed to take leave again, Hermes scraps the controversial ban

Hermes drivers can take additional leave in the coming months. The decision of the management of the bus company not to allow this until mid-October has been withdrawn. The summary proceedings that the Hermes works council (OR) had initiated and would serve on Monday will not take place.

Hermes drives in Eindhoven, among other places, and has been struggling with a shortage of drivers for some time. As a result, rides have already been cancelled. On Thursday it was announced that an adjusted holiday timetable will apply from August 28.

‘heavy measure’
Meanwhile, Hermes had decided not to honor new requests for days off. The management acknowledges that this is a serious measure, which raised questions among the Works Council and the trade unions CNV and FNV.

All parties will now look together at how they can alleviate the workload. Ultimately, they hope to come up with a plan that takes into account the interests of travelers and the existing holiday and leave scheme. Marijn van der Gaag, trade union director for Regional Transport at the FNV: “It is of no use to travelers if drivers fall ill. That is why we like to discuss solutions.”

Hermes director Martijn Mentink is happy with this: “We do everything we can to get travelers from A to B quickly, safely and comfortably. Our employees, who are ready for our travelers every day, of course also deserve their days off and holidays.”
