Constant accessibility, pressure in the world of work, stress at home – the reasons why more and more people are getting burnt out of burnout. However, there are certain groups that are particularly at risk of “burning down”.
Burnout risk increases
The workplace is an essential factor for human health. However, at work, every fifth employee in Germany feels burnout symptoms such as permanent tiredness, concentration disorders or a strong rejection of their own professional activity. This emerges from a study by the McKinsey Health Institute, which was published in November 2023. With regard to the different age groups, the proportion of those suffering from burnout symptoms is the highest among 20- to 24-year-olds, the so-called generation Z.
These industries and professional groups are particularly at risk
Sometimes a look at the different industries and professions shows which employees are particularly at risk for burnout. According to an analysis of its own insured data, the AOK scientific institute has determined how the disease frequencies differ according to certain industries. According to the AOK, the basis of the study was the AU days due to burnout diseases that were encrypted with the IDC-10 diagnosis Z73. The evaluations of activities show that relatives in particular customer -oriented and educational professions, in which a helping or advisory attitude is constantly required by other people, are affected by a burnout. The most affected professional groups include supervisory and managers in sales, as well as professions in geriatric care and in dialogue marketing.
There is therefore a large part of the susceptibility to burnout in people who are enthusiastic about their work and the needs and goals of their employer about their own positions, reports Kandi Vienna, director of the master’s degree in Medical Education at the University of Pennsylvania towards CNBC Make. These include teachers, activists, employees of non -profit organizations and small business owners.
Burnout prevention by self -care
According to Vienna, the setting and maintenance of work-life boundaries can help to regain some time for themselves and to create space for other activities and relationships that give joy. Vienna also recommends taking some time on the way to work or after work to listen to music, make calls to friends or participate in another healthy activity. This could create a clean separation between work and private life.
