A 52-year-old former resident Van Emmen has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for six burglaries, two attempts and a robbery on the Kruidvat. Ten months of this are conditional.
The man was active in Emmen from 17 February 2023 to the end of August 2024. He struck in homes in the Bargeres and Noordbarge neighborhoods. He did that during the day. “I’m afraid in the dark”, the man confessed to the judge two weeks ago.
The most bad fact finds the judge the robbery on the Kruidvat last year. Under the threat of a knife, he looted 140 euros.
The man, dressed in the dark and with a knife in his hand, made a shocking impression on the cashier and employees of the store. He had no eye for the suffering he has done, the judge thinks.
Also during the burglaries the man showed no respect for the property of others. And he created a sense of insecurity and uneasiness among the residents in those neighborhoods.
His motivation was the drugs. The man is on thievespad from a young age. His criminal record has 40 sides. Many treatment processes have been released on him, without success. That was the reason for the Public Prosecution Service (at) two weeks ago to only demand a four -year prison sentence.
A possible treatment can also be used at the time of return to society, the public prosecutor reasoned.
The court wants to try again. In addition to the prison sentence, the man must be treated in a rehab clinic, among other things. The former Emmenaar was motivated during the court session. He was still in the probationary period of a conditional prison sentence of 90 days. He must now also sit that out.
