Unusual obligation in Hoffenheim: The Bundesliga club brings a manager from the hardware giant Obi to the management. There she gets a newly created position.
TSG Hoffenheim has expanded the management and created a new position. Asmahan Gamgami will take over the “People & Culture” department from May 1, 2025. The club announced this on Tuesday.
Gamgami will be part of the management in the future. This consists of the chairman Dr. Markus Schütz and Andreas Schicker (Sport), Frank Briel (finance) and Tim Jost (Marketing & Sales). With Gamgami and Melanie Fichtner (IT & Digital), two women are then represented in the management.
Born in Dortmund with Moroccan roots, the Obi hardware store chain recently worked. There she was responsible for the promotion of diversity and inclusion as a global diversity manager. In the future she will bring in her experience in Hoffenheim.
“My passion applies to people and the question of how we can create workers in which they feel belonging and can develop their potential,” says Gamgami about their new task.
According to TSG Managing Director Dr. Markus Schütz brings Gamgami an “impressive mix of academic expertise and practical experience” and will help to develop “a new culture of personnel management” in the club.
The new area manager studied in Düsseldorf and taught in parallel to her professional career as a lecturer in Bochum.
The TSG thus sets a clear sign of more diversity in professional football. As a report by the “Football can” (FKM) initiative from last year shows, female managers in the Bundesliga are still a rarity. Of 84 positions on the board and management, only six were occupied by women.
Whether gamgamis affect the sporting area we have an impact, it remains to be seen. The TSG is currently in 15th place in the Bundesliga and thus clearly behind expectations.
