FC St. Pauli practically managed to remain the class at Eintracht Frankfurt and gave the Hesse a final in the race for a Champions League starting area. The Eintracht did not get over a 2-2 (1: 2) against the Kiezkicker on the 33rd matchday of the Bundesliga and has to worry about the premier class.

Rasmus Kristensen put the Frankfurters in the lead after only 23 seconds. In the initial phase, however, St. Pauli made the game through the goals of Manoli’s Saliacas (4th minute) and Morgan Guilavogui (16.). Eintracht no longer succeeded in more than the 2: 2 by the substitute Michy Bathshuayi (71st).

The St. Pauli cushion on the relegation place is three points before the season finale, but the Hamburgers have the 13 goals better goal difference compared to the table-16. 1. FC Heidenheim, which is very likely to be relegated. Eintracht’s lead to fifth place, which Borussia Dortmund occupied, shrank to three points. On the last match day, the table third with the fourth -placed SC Freiburg.

Even before the game, it was clear that Eintracht needs a victory to make the second champions League participation in the club history perfect before the season finale. Because BVB defeated Bayer Leverkusen 4: 2 and thus even moved to the Hesse to two points. Should Dortmund win against relegated Kiel with at least two goals difference, Borussia would be almost safe in the premier class.

“Everything is done,” Frankfurt’s coach Dino Toppmöller had optimistic before the last home game of this season. An atmospheric backdrop with 58,000 spectators and early summer weather ensured an actually perfect setting to qualify for the European premier class.

And from the point of view of Eintracht, it got even better: the home side took a dream start and took the lead after only a few seconds through Kristensen. But the guests were unimpressed. With a soulful lifter, Saliacas ensured the quick balance in an initial phase.

Shortly thereafter, Hugo Larsson St. Pauli’s goalkeeper Ben Voll, who replaced the blocked regular goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj (6th). It was also full who prepared the lead for Hamburg with a tee. The 24-year-old found Guilavogui, who scored the 2-1 against the Frankfurter, which was advised after a corner.

Afterwards, Eintracht struggled against waiting guests to create opportunities. The game of the Hesse looked treading, which professionals unsettled on the pitch in the face of the deficit. St. Pauli, in turn, defended disciplined until half -time and brought the audience and opponents to the brink of despair. So it went with whistles from the ranks into the break.

Toppmöller reacted to the uninspired performance of his eleven and brought Bathoya for Jean-Mattéo Bahoya for the second half. But the game of the Frankfurters did not make it more powerful. In addition, the game flow was disturbed by injury interruptions on both sides. When the encounter seemed to splash, Bathshuayi (71.) made it compensated. Another goal of the joker in the 88th minute was not recognized due to handball.
