After four Bundesliga victories in a row, SC Freiburg missed another three, but expanded its unbeaten series: The team of coach Julian Schuster did not get out of a goalless draw on matchday 24 at FC Augsburg and stayed behind Mainz 05. The Fuggerstädter meanwhile missed keeping up with the upper half of the table.

In the duel of two defensive in top form, the Breisgauers presented themselves amazingly clumsy at the goalless draw. The Augsburgers around their goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, who set up a club record with 433 minutes without conceding and at the same time improved, have also been unbeaten for eight games. According to the draw, the Freiburg is still promising in front of 29,651 spectators in the Champions League race. The Augsburgers are in the carefree middle field with 32 points, Steve Mounié only hit the post in added time.

The South Badeners, who had set their club record with a fifth win in a row, want to leave RB Leipzig in the race for Europe next week. The FCA has to compete in the somewhat more stable BVB in Dortmund. What do you do about a Champions League candidate? You accelerate. That was the route of Augsburg from the kick -off. Alexis Claude-Maurice, a week ago with a hat trick against Borussia Mönchengladbach the match winner, gave a first sample after just 60 seconds. The French shot was blocked, however.

The Augsburgers then did not allow the Freiburger to develop with a clever room layout – but that was not long -term. Frank Onyeka (24th) hammered an unclean ball from Vincenzo Grifo from the penalty area to the lower edge of the latte. Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu would have been beaten. And just three minutes later, Dimitrios Giannoulis rushed into a diagonal ball from the right side of driver Fredrik Jensen. The left foot could not control the ball with its weaker foot. The Augsburgers were clearly on the trigger – but striker Phillip Tietz (45.+2) simply did not meet from the best position with a clear view of Atubolu.

The home side were also the more energetic team after the change of sides. The Freiburg, on the other hand, continued to act too slow, but at least came from Dahmen’s goal at least from time to time. Only seconds after his substitution, Jan-Niklas failed the best (63.) on the FCA keeper. The fans were almost unable to get the fire -threatening scenes, even if the Augsburgers were closer to the Lucky Punch with a post cracker through the substitute Mounié.
