Football Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel presented his new managing director Sport Olaf Rebbe on Wednesday. The 46-year-old wants to bring young and developing players to the fjord.
Whether the Kielers still succeed in creating the relegation in the Bundesliga or it goes back to the 2nd league – Rebbes task remains the same: make a lot of a lot. Large financial jumps are not possible on the fjord.
Rebbe sees KSV Holstein as a perfect springboard for young and capable of development. “Because there is a quiet environment. Because there are coaches who have awareness: How do I become a professional? I think Holstein is a top address for young players.”
Relegation place is still to be reached
Developing players, discovering niches: the way of KSV Holstein is not new. Rebbe predecessor Carsten Wehlmann also faced the task of shaping a competitive team with minor means.
This was only partially achieved this season. The “storks” are bottom of the table and only got 19 points in 30 games. Nevertheless, there is still a chance to overtake Bochum and Heidenheim and save yourself the relegation.
The KSV supervisory board nevertheless decided to separate Wehlmann and announced it on Good Friday. At Rebbes introduction, supervisory board chief Stefan Tholund Wehlmann expressly thanked, but also emphasized that the sporting status quo – table place 18 – was the reason for this.
“If you are satisfied with these results, then you would have missed your tasks,” said Tholund: “I don’t want to carry any details into the public, but we have had corresponding conversations internally for two to three months. It was important to us that we have a successor in the hindquarters. Otherwise there would have been a gap.”
