Holstein Kiel managed historical on Sunday and achieved the first Bundesliga away win in the club history at the 1st FC Union Berlin. With Armin Gigovic’s goal, the storks at the Köpenickers won 1-0 and the north German gave the red lantern in the table. With the third Unioner, now in a row, the previous Bundesliga record of most away wins per game day (8) from the 2019/20 season was discontinued.

The deficit of the Kieler to the relegation rank is now only one counter. Union was the slightly better team and earned more chances. At the end, however, precision and consequence were missing. Due to the sporty damper, the Köpenicker could once again become tight in the relegation battle-especially if the judgment of the DFB Federal Court remains and the game against VfL Bochum (1: 1) will be rated 0: 2 retrospectively. After the new defeat at the green table, the Köpenickers want to switch on the last instance, the constant arbitration tribunal. A Union supporter had hit VfL goalkeeper Patrick Drewes on the head with a lighter.

A week after the 0: 6 debacle in Dortmund, the home side initially ensured that guest keeper Timon Weiner did not get bored. First the goalkeeper parried a shot from the ex-Kiel Tom Rothe, then he prevented an own goal by Max Schm. Especially according to corners – four in the first quarter of an hour – the Berliner developed the risk of scoring. After a good Unioner initial phase, Kiel shifted the game more often to the Berlin half – but still remained harmless. The fans saw a largely tension -free and balanced first half. Gigovic’s lead goal fell out of nowhere.

Union increased the intensity after the break. In the first three minutes after the change of sides alone, Rothe and substitute Andrej Ilic gave good opportunities. There was little to see from Kiel. Shuto Machino’s shot on the post (74th) was the best way after Phil Harres (61st) had been off his goal at his goal. Union also pushed for the equalization in the final phase, but did not play his attacks determined enough and could no longer prevent the next setback.
