A strong Omar Marmoush put Eintracht Frankfurt on the road to victory against SC Freiburg in what could be his last game in front of a home crowd with his 15th goal of the season. Overall, the SGE showed a mature performance and won 4:1 (1:1) on Tuesday. The Frankfurt board is said to have received an offer from Manchester City for the Egyptian. Sports director Markus Krösche has so far only confirmed that there is interest from a club in the attacker.

Ritsu Doan gave the guests from Breisgau a somewhat surprising lead (37th). But after that only unity scored. Before the break, Robin Koch made it 1-1 after a corner (43′). After the break, Frankfurt turned their clear advantages into something countable: first Omar Marmoush scored his 15th goal of the season (65th), a little later Hugo Ekitiké increased the score when he perfectly completed a counterattack (71st). In the final phase, right-back Nnamdi Collins put the ball into the Freiburg goal with his pick (81′).

“We performed very, very well, showed patience, scored the goals up front and defended well”said sports director Markus Krösche at Sky, “We played a very, very good first half of the season.” Krösche did not comment further on the courted Marmoush, he simply reiterated that a club was interested.

Disjointed beginning

The game started out disjointed and there were hardly any significant actions on either side. Mario Götze took the first shot when he shot from a half-right position in the penalty area after a nice pass. But Noah Atubolu in the Freiburg goal had no problems with the shot.

As a result, Eintracht gained more shares of the game, but the actions in midfield often ended in a duel between two equal teams.

Suddenly Freiburg is cheering

But then suddenly the guests cheered. Doan initiated his own goal when Röhl passed flat into the six-yard box from the right and the Japanese player pushed in unstoppably. However, the answer from Frankfurt was not long in coming.

After a corner from the left from Marmoush, defender Koch oriented himself towards the first post and used the cross with his head. Frankfurt were pushing for the lead before the half-time whistle, but Ekitiké shot the ball just wide of the right corner when attempting a shot.

Frankfurt with more game shares

Even after the restart, the home team dominated the game. It took some patience – but the significantly higher proportions of play paid off: Nathaniel Brown fed Marmoush from the left in the center of the penalty area, whose first attempt was blocked. But Atubolu had no chance against the follow-up shot. A little later, the goalkeeper saved his SCF from an even greater deficit with a lightning reflex.

The world champion once again showed that Mario Götze has not lost his outstanding skills and in a very worthwhile way about 20 minutes before the regular end of the game. After winning the ball against Freiburg, Götze sent the lurking Ekitiké, who, thanks to his great speed, evaded the Freiburg defenders with the ball at his feet and gave Atubolu no chance when he finished from around 16 meters.

Collins demonstrated offensive assertiveness when he scored, as he joined in at the front and maneuvered the ball into the visitors’ goal with the toe of his boot against the Freiburg defense.

With this three-point win, Eintracht moved into third place in the table, Freiburg lost some ground and has to rally again in the fight for the international starting places.
