Despite another defeat, Frankfurt continues to rely on its coach – at least for the time being. What happens next with Albert Riera remains unclear for the time being.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s recently heavily criticized coach Albert Riera will also be in the coaching bench in the last game of the season against VfB Stuttgart. Markus Krösche confirmed this after the 2:3 (1:2) defeat at Borussia Dortmund on Friday. The Hessian sports director answered the question as to whether the Spaniard would also take part in the last game of the season against VfB Stuttgart. Krösche did not want to comment on Riera’s future.

“We lost the game today and that is of course extremely annoying. And now it’s about us all winning a game together against Stuttgart,” he answered the question. “And then we sit down together, and that’s basically how we always do it.”

Riera has been Eintracht’s coach since the beginning of February, succeeding the dismissed Dino Toppmöller. The defeat in Dortmund was the third in the last four games without a win. Eintracht is in danger of missing out on participation in international business. “My players will give everything until my last day here, more than 100 percent, I can promise that,” said Riera after the game on the pay TV channel Sky.

The problem is not the game in Dortmund. “You need time, three months is actually not enough,” explained the 44-year-old. He himself hopes to be allowed to stay. “It’s not my decision, it’s a decision of the club,” said the coach at the press conference after the game: “I need time and trust. But I’m not worried. I feel strong and believe that I can find the right solutions to achieve more performances like this.” Time is “the key to everything in life.”

In order to qualify for a place in a European competition, Frankfurt not only has to score points against Stuttgart, but also hope for mistakes from neighbors Freiburg, who are guests at Hamburger SV on Sunday (from 3:30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).
