Bundesliga divided into north and south: Union dominates – Bayern and Freiburg tied on points

TM statistic

SC Freiburg on par with FC Bayern, Union Berlin alone at the top and Borussia Dortmund only in seventh place – isn’t there? But: The Bundesliga only has to be divided into a northern and a southern squadron and such constellations are already possible in the current season. This gimmick can be seen in the TM statistic “Own table”, in which a table with self-selected teams that are and/or were active in the German upper house can be compiled.

If, in the case of the north, clubs from the west are added alongside Werder Bremen, the northernmost club in the Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg, Hertha BSC, Union Berlin and RB Leipzig, a season of eleven clubs is formed. They each have at least ten games to show for the current season and Union Berlin is in pole position with 27 points after eleven games. A curious picture emerges at BVB, which is third in the official table of the German Football League (DFL), but only occupies seventh place in the northern season – the clubs Leipzig, Werder, Bayer 04, 1. FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach face the competition from Dortmund.

In the south, on the other hand, the race for the lead is hard-fought and will only be decided based on your difference in goal difference at the moment. In the season with seven clubs, FC Bayern is ahead with 14 points after seven games, while SC Freiburg, the southernmost club in the league, is on an equal footing, having the same number of points but a goal difference that is twelve goals weaker. FC Augsburg, in 13th place in the official table, is at the bottom of the table – with just one win (1-0 win against FC Bayern in September) from seven games and six defeats.
