Borussia Dortmund receives the next blow: with newly promoted Holstein Kiel, the first half of the game in particular becomes a nightmare for BVB. And yet the final phase will still be exciting.

Shuto Machino (27th), Phil Harres (32nd), Alexander Bernhardsson (45th + 4) and Fiete Arp (90th + 8) scored for the hosts with a goal from the halfway line against Dortmund, who appeared desolate in the first half. Gio Reyna (71′) and Jamie Gittens (77′) reduced the deficit in the final phase, but it was no longer enough to score a point for the Black and Yellows.

BVB coach Nuri Şahin will now come under even more pressure: There have only been three wins for Dortmund in the last ten Bundesliga games. The club is currently only in eighth place and could slip even further as the match day progresses.

Because the euphoric Kiel fans fogged up the pitch using pyrotechnics in the first and at the beginning of the second half, the game was briefly interrupted twice.

Dortmund, who announced Donyell Malen’s move to Aston Villa before kick-off, often had the ball in the first half and had six corners, but remained completely harmless in front of the Kiel goal, which was guarded by Timon Weiner. Only a long-range shot from striker Serhou Guirassy caused a bit of danger in the early stages.

As unimaginative and harmless as the guests appeared offensively, they appeared careless defensively. Before the score was 0-1, national player Julian Brandt had the ball stolen by the strong Bernhardsson, who promptly put Machino in an ideal position. The Japanese international scored his seventh goal of the season from 16 meters.

Five minutes later it was already 2-0: Lasse Rosenboom sent a sharp cross from the right in front of the BVB goal, where Harres reacted faster than Can and headed in powerfully. It was also goal number seven of the season for him.

While Şahin had to miss a number of players due to illness in the 2-3 win against Leverkusen, he was able to rely on Nico Schlotterbeck, Ramy Bensebaini and captain Can in defense against Kiel. The stability was still missing.

The Kiel team switched quickly again and again, plunging BVB into chaos. The 3-0, when Bernhardsson scored free in front of Kobel after a fine combination on the left side, caused a further high mood in the cold stadium.

After the break, Şahin first sent Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Beier onto the field for Julian Ryerson and Bensebaini, later Yan Couto and Reyna came on for Julien Duranville and Marcel Sabitzer.

And BVB, who were by no means brilliant, actually found their way back into the game. Reyna and Gittens shortened the score almost out of nowhere within six minutes. The tremors on Kiel’s side began – especially when Holtby had to leave the field for an unnecessary and violent challenge from behind against Felix Nmecha. But in the long injury time, Arp put the final trick when he pushed the ball from over 40 meters into the BVB goal that was left by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
