1. FC Köln and Bayer 04 Leverkusen drew in the catch-up game on matchday 5 – in a strange way.
Both teams met on Sunday, but the game had to be abandoned after 37 minutes due to a floodlight failure when the score was 1-0 for FC. In the catch-up game on Thursday, both teams drew 2-2 (0-0).
FC had already led by two goals after goals from Laura Feiersinger (48th/foul penalty) and an own goal from Carline Kehrer (72nd). Vanessa Fudalla (76th) and a goal from the center circle by Katharina Piljic (88th) secured Bayer a point.
FC missed out on their third win in a row and slipped to tenth place with seven points. Leverkusen, on the other hand, already has 13 points and remains in the top group in fourth place.
Cologne has the first degrees
Last Sunday it only took 26 seconds for Sandra Jessen to head FC into the lead. There was no such lightning start on Thursday. Nevertheless, it was FC again that first became dangerous. Adriana Achcińska (6th) and Feiersinger (12th) brought the first shots at the Leverkusen goal, but goalkeeper Friederike Repohl was there in each case.
Was completely uninvolved in the game Bayer Leverkusen but also not. But the Bayer women weren’t really dangerous in the first half. In the 18th minute, Valentina Mädl only hit the side netting. It was Leverkusen’s best chance in the first half.
Repohl ruined FC’s best chance shortly before the break. Martyna Wiankowska shot directly from 16 meters, Repohl fished the ball out of the corner (39th).
Feiersinger hits from the point
Cologne’s lightning start came in the second half and Jessen was involved again. The Icelander entered the penalty area on the left and was taken off her feet by Claudia Wenger. Referee Naemi Breier didn’t hesitate and pointed to the spot. Feiersinger safely converted into the right corner to give Cologne the lead (48th).
Five minutes later Jessen almost made it 2-0, but found her champion in Repohl.
Bayer coach Roberto Pätzold had already made three changes at halftime, but now reacted again and brought on Loreen Bender, who had previously been rested. And that had an effect, because Bayer 04 became stronger now. But they still didn’t really put the Cologne goal in trouble.
Bremer scores almost immediately after being substituted
FC coach Britta Carlson brought Pauline Bremer into the game, among others – and that almost paid off straight away. Just three minutes after being substituted, Bremer narrowly missed Leverkusen’s goal (68′).
Four minutes later, the Cologne women celebrated for the second time. And again it was a standard. Wiankowska took a free kick from the right into the penalty area to Sara Agrez, but it was Leverkusen’s Kehrer who unfortunately headed the ball into her own goal from close range (72′).
Piljic hits from 50 meters
But that wasn’t the preliminary decision, because only four minutes after the goal, referee Breier came into focus again. During a Leverkusen corner, she saw a foul by Wiankowska in the penalty area and pointed to the spot for the second time. Fudalla left no stone unturned and scored safely for Bayer 04 (76′).
Leverkusen started again in the final phase. But it was a gift from Cologne that brought the equalizer. The only 20-year-old Irina Fuchs, actually FC’s fourth goalkeeper, wanted to knock the ball away in front of the penalty area, but played it directly into Piljic’s feet and the Leverkusen player shot the ball from the center circle into the Cologne goal.
Nevertheless, FC almost took the win in stoppage time, but Jessen and Anna-Lena Stolze missed two good opportunities.
Both teams before top games
Both teams have difficult tasks ahead of them next weekend. The FC women will play at FC Bayern Munich on Sunday (4 p.m.). Bayer 04 hosts VfL Wolfsburg on the same day (5:15 p.m.).
