Bundesliga – Bundesliga: Exciting relegation battle

Berlin (dpa) – preliminary decision postponed! The fight against relegation from the Bundesliga remains exciting.

Two late goals in Arminia Bielefeld’s 1-1 (0-0) win against Hertha BSC and VfB Stuttgart’s 1-1 (0-1) win against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday prevented clearer conditions two games before the end of the season. Bielefeld (27 points) has the worst conditions behind Stuttgart (29) on the relegation place and the Berliners (33) in 15th place.

Champion FC Bayern lost 3-1 (1-2) at FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday, second-placed Borussia Dortmund conceded 3-4 (2-2) against VfL Bochum despite Erling Haaland’s three goals. 1. FC Köln is still on course for the European Cup after beating FC Augsburg 4-1 (2-0). After the spectacular 4: 3 (1: 1) at TSG Hoffenheim, SC Freiburg can still hope for a place in the Champions League.

No Berlin party

In Bielefeld, the fans saw a first half with few highlights and only a few shots in the direction of the goals. The guests from Berlin were slightly superior at first, but in the 21st game of the season they didn’t score in the first 45 minutes. At Arminia it was even the 23rd game. Lucas Tousart made the Hertha fans cheer after a corner in the 54th minute. But Joakim Nilsson (90+1) prevented the Berlin party.

The situation worsened for VfB after the 0:1 by John Anthony Brooks (13th) with a header from a corner kick. The Stuttgart then had a very difficult time and could hardly create any chances. Then Chris Führich (89th) scored.

Bayern conceded – Mainz superior

Champion Bayern conceded the first goal by Jonathan Burkardt in the 18th minute. Mainz had previously hit the crossbar twice and were clearly the better team in the early stages – Moussa Niakhaté (27th) reinforced their superiority with his goal. World footballer Robert Lewandowski (33rd) scored the goal, but Leandro Barreiro (57th) scored again for Mainz.

BVB thriller to the end

BVB fell behind early goals from Sebastian Polter (3rd) and Gerrit Holtmann (8th). Two penalty kicks converted by Haaland (18th and 30th) brought Dortmund back into the game before the Norwegian also scored the third BVB goal in the 62nd minute. But Jürgen Locadia (81st) and Miloš Pantović (85th, penalty kick) turned the game around again.

The spectators in Sinsheim also saw a great game with seven goals. Roland Sallai (23′), Christian Günter (50′), Lucas Höler (70′) and Joker Woo-Yeong Jeong (73′) scored for Freiburg. Goals from Andrej Kramaric (23′), Angelo Stiller (49′) and Sebastian Rudy (84′) were not enough for Hoffenheim, who have now been without a win for seven games.

Jan Thielmann (12th) put Cologne in the lead in Augsburg, Mark Uth (15th) followed up early – after a template from Thielmann. Anthony Modeste (63rd) then converted a penalty kick to his 18th goal of the season and also scored in the 77th minute. Florian Niederlechner (73rd) had shortened in the meantime. With 52 points, FC is sixth in the table.
