Reaction arrived, crisis put on ice. Because it is still too early to say that it has been overcome. But after three defeats in a row (including the one in the Champions League against Lazio) Bayern Munich returns to winning ways and does so with pride: 2-1 against Leipzig achieved in full injury time. Harry Kane’s goals were decisive in the 56th minute and then in the 91st minute. Sesko’s momentary 1-1 goal in the 70th minute was therefore useless. But Neuer was also fundamental with a couple of exceptional saves. Leverkusen thus remains at +8 even at the end of the 23rd matchday of the championship. Never in the history of the Bundesliga has such a gap been made up at this point in the championship. The news, therefore, would now be Bayern Munich champions. Which after 11 years of absolute domination is strange.

the match

Tuchel lines up his team with 4-2-3-1, with Sané, Müller and Musiala behind Kane. Leipzig responds with all the quality they have at their disposal: Dani Olmo, author of a hat-trick in the Super Cup in the summer, Xavi Simons, Openda and Sesko. Bayern’s legs were shaking and already in the first seconds Leipzig became dangerous after a mistake by Neuer in the build-up. The Bavarians respond and, as the minutes pass, they also seem to acquire a certain awareness that has seemed to be missing in recent weeks. However, the opponent was not the best to restart, on the contrary. Bayern have been struggling against Leipzig for some time, to the point that before today the Red Bull-controlled club had been unbeaten against the Bavarians for four games. And so the match, as predicted, was balanced: Bayern became dangerous in the 5th minute (Kane’s post) and in the 34th minute (Sané wasted it by not kicking at the right moment and was closed down), but the guests weren’t joking either: the team di Rose comes close to taking the lead with Haidara, Simakan and Simons (Neuer is good on the latter), but the goals are not seen.

pride

If Bayern needed points to try to stay in Leverkusen’s wake in the title fight, Leipzig, fifth, needed them to overtake Dortmund (+1 at the start of the day) in the Champions League zone. Although both teams try to win, however, their fear of losing emerges and tactics prevail. In the 56th minute Kane, triggered by Schalger, who involuntarily gave him the ball after a tackle with Musiala, managed to put his team ahead with a nice shot into the corner, but Bayern soon showed that they were shaking at the back: in the 61st minute Neuer it’s miraculous on Sesko, who a few minutes later wastes another opportunity by kicking out from an excellent position. However, the equalizer came in the 70th minute: Olmo served Sesko whose shot, deflected by Goretzka, stunned Neuer. The pace slows down and the teams almost seem to be satisfied with a point that in reality would be of no use to anyone. At the end, however, Bayern had an important resurgence of pride and it was, paradoxically, Kane, one of the latest arrivals, who expressed it: the English striker created havoc in the 80th minute when his header just missed the target. Then he takes the 3 points with a great play in full injury time: in the 91st minute it is Choupo-Moting, from the back, who finds Kane in the area. The Bavarian number 9, with power, beats the opposing goalkeeper with a nice volley. Bayern thus returns to victory, confirming itself at -8 from Leverkusen. A victory that does not represent the end of the crisis, but is still a first step.
