Leverkusen left behind again

The last time FC Bayern’s dominance was interrupted, Borussia Dortmund experienced two incredible years under coach Jürgen Klopp with the championships in 2011 and 2012 as well as the DFB Cup victory in 2012. In February 2013, when the provoked Munich team had recovered and left BVB behind in the table, boss Uli Hoeneß said: “We have done a lot to be back on top in Germany. For ourselves It was good that a club like that came along. It took us to another level.” Over a decade later, FC Bayern has recovered well from the breakthrough of the next surprise team – Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

After the Werkself sensationally won the double under Xabi Alonso in 2024 and also distanced FCB by ten points in the annual table (80 to 70), the record champions have restored the familiar conditions in an impressive manner. Under Belgian coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern raced to the league title with 82 points ahead of Bayer 04 (69). And we are also on the verge of bringing the bowl to Säbener Straße in the 2025/26 season. After just 15 match days, a preliminary decision has already been made and the competition from RB Leipzig, BVB and Bayer has clearly been left behind. Which is also reflected in the 2025 Bundesliga annual table.
FCB dominates the action in this ranking, while the top four is completed by Leverkusen, Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt. RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart also made it into the six most successful teams, although the Saxons’ ambition in particular is likely to be different: permanent Champions League qualification. The weakest teams in terms of points that have played in the Bundesliga throughout the year are 1. FC Heidenheim and FC St. Pauli. Both clubs have to worry about staying in the league this season.
Glimmer of hope for the FCH: In the previous year’s 2024 table, they finished second to last among all teams that were represented first-class throughout the entire year. Heidenheim was lucky to keep the Bundesliga thanks to the relegation against Elversberg.
