Trainer at second division competitor
BTSV icon Lieberknecht: He says that about his new job
April 24, 2025 – 1:43 p.m.Reading time: 2 min.

Torsten Lieberknecht is back: seven and a half months after his end at SV Darmstadt, he takes over the next second division club. These are his first words.
Torsten Lieberknecht at Eintracht Braunschweig was not supposed to be another commitment. The 51-year-old was associated several times in the course of the current season with a return to the Löwenstadt, where he had left powerful footsteps as a player and coach.
Eintracht expressed confidence to the current coach Daniel Schering twice. And now the BTSV icon is from the market. The 1. FC Kaiserslautern secured the services of the coach, which was installed as the successor to the exempted Mark.
For a long time Lieberknecht has not endured since his end at SV Darmstadt 98 in early September 2024 before he now tackles his next task. Already on Wednesday he was on the training ground with his new team for the first time.
His new work is noticeable. “It’s something special,” said Lieberknecht on the edge of his first unit. Because for him the job in Kaiserslautern also means: back to the roots. He himself was born in Bad Dürkheim – so it himself is a Palatinate. “Everyone knows that now,” he says.
For him, it is now “a privilege” at his Palatinate Association, where he himself became great and from which he was a fan. And that in a team with the many coaches, “who have done great things here,” adds Lieberknecht.
Although he felt a special feeling himself, when he first drove up “the Betze”, but he already put his own sensitivities back on day one. “The most important thing is my players,” he proclaimed. It is important that they work and “we get them back into their self -confidence.”
Then, despite the recently disappointing appearances and three defeats in a row, the FCK would still be possible. Because: Currently, the table seven is currently missing three points up to climbing relegation place three. Lieberknecht also knows that there is a “big chance” to refine the season. First of all, however, you have to do your own homework.
And then on Sunday against FC Schalke 04 (kick -off 1:30 p.m.) there is the first important task in the new constellation. With a win, the dreams from the Bundesliga promotion would receive new food. And Lieberknecht knows exactly how it works with climbing in Germany’s elite league. Among other things from his time at Eintracht Braunschweig.
