Hertha’s new president will be elected on Sunday. It boils down to a showdown between the favorites Frank Steffel (56) and Kay Bernstein (41). There is ambiguity with candidate Kai Brumme (37).
Three other candidates (Pering, Baumgärtner, Kellner) left the office on Tuesday. A withdrawal was also recommended to Kai Brumme by Hertha’s supervisory board.
But Brumme, foreman in the building construction sector, says to BZ: “Whoever gives up has already lost. My candidacy for Hertha President continues. I’m the stranger, but all the hotter and more motivated.”
Brumme has been a Hertha member since October 2020 and has been going to Hertha as a fan in the Olympic Stadium since the mid-1990s. He comes from Berlin-Hellersdorf and trains the U19s of the Bundesliga club Eintracht Mahlsdorf with a B license.
Does the outsider really believe in winning the election?
Brumme: “The members should decide that. Either I just collect a new experience, then life goes on. Or my CV will be completely rewritten…”
