“Just like our own inhabitants – for the first time – the temporary inhabitants of our city experience a slightly reduced quality of living and experience due to the crowds at certain moments and in certain places,” says Tourism Minou Esquenet (CD&V). “This development also puts pressure on the center function of the city.”
According to the ships, the social cost of tourism in the city should be taken into account. “Bruges is a hospitable city, where people from all over the world feel welcome and we want to keep it that way. I am therefore working on a concrete plan to manage our hospitality more actively. This is how we keep high support for tourism with our residents, and the attractiveness for our most desired visitors high.”
