Bruges heritage developer is allowed to repurpose iconic prison in Breda
The well-known building in Breda closed its doors as a prison eight years ago. It was then sold and in the meantime they receive 380 Ukrainian refugees there.
But VVD is now working with Being on a new future. After a survey among residents in Breda, they start from a number of spearheads: the existing historical heritage must remain intact, the renewal must be sustainable and it must be an accessible project. In the winning plan, it will be an open area, connected to the city center of Breda.
“The entire project requires a sophisticated approach that takes into account the eventful and important history of the city of Breda,” says Johan Vandendriessche of VVD. “With a strong focus on character preservation and innovation, we will protect the iconic heritage and the entire monumental site and repurpose.”
