Bruges fears additional infections through Chinese tourists

De fauw fears additional infections through Chinese visitors to our country. Bruges traditionally has a large number of Chinese tourists.

“Test or vaccination certificate for Chinese”

“Every year, about 100,000 to 150,000 visitors from China come to our city,” says De fauw. That is why the mayor is worried now that China is reopening its borders after the corona period. “The infection rates in the country are still very high, but the doors are being opened without restrictions.”

De fauw argues for a solution at European level. “I think we have to work with either a vaccination certificate or tests. If we want to travel to other countries outside Europe, proof is also often needed. We must prevent people from becoming infected here.”

According to De fauw, it will be some time before our country will receive Chinese tourists. “Usually these are organized group trips. It won’t be until April or May that they will get going again. So there is plenty of time to work on any restrictions.”
