Bruce Willis and his wife celebrate their anniversary, defying the blow of fate

Bruce Willis retired in 2022 after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. From then on, a lot changed in Willis and his wife Emma Hering-Willis’ everyday life. The illness is a turning point in one’s previous life and manifests itself in difficult language and motor skills as well as changes in behavior and personality. A person’s self-knowledge may also be limited because the disease affects the frontal lobe of the brain. Heming-Willis has already shared that it is “hard to say” how aware the actor is of his condition.

Now his wife posted a picture together on the occasion of the couple’s 16th wedding anniversary. “16 years with this special man. My love and adoration for him only grows,” she captioned the Instagram post.

In her story she then talks about how life and the anniversary of Willis’ illness are going for her. “How do I really feel today? And how do I look? I think that sums it up,” she says, pointing to her makeup-free face.

“I just spoke to a really dear friend of mine on the phone and had a good cry. It’s really important to have someone you can trust with your feelings. Instead of just bottling up those feelings and doing the best you can and kind of fighting through it, which is what I tend to do.”

She emphasizes that both the holidays and anniversaries are hard. “But for me, this year was really about building a community and a connection. I just want to say that this was my lifeline.”
