Bruce Springsteen: surprise guest at Coldplay concert

What do Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Willis and Bruce Springsteen have in common? They all come from one of the leading industrialized countries in the United States. We’re talking about New Jersey, a densely populated area where nearly 20 percent of all residents were born outside the country.

It was in this state in East Rutherford that Coldplay stopped for their “Music of the Spheres” tour on June 5th. In the “MetLife Stadium”, the concert-goers could look forward to a very special guest: Bruce Springsteen. The “Boss” performed his songs “Working on a Dream” and “Dancing in the Dark” with Coldplay.

Coldplay singer Chris Martin couldn’t hide his excitement. “I even have a tattoo on my arm because that person is my hero,” he explained. “Please give him a warm welcome – I can’t believe I’m saying this – this is Bruce Springsteen.”

The now 72-year-old then entered the stage and was greeted with the traditional “Bruuuuuce” chants. Even for a little joke he was not above himself. “Chris Martin told me he had the song tattooed on his arm for a while so I have no choice but to sing it now.”

More on Coldplay

First they played an acoustic version of Springsteen’s “Working on a Dream” from the 2009 album of the same name. Coldplay then supported the “Boss” on his mega hit “Dancing in the Dark” from the 1984 album “Born in the USA”. Chris Martin did backing vocals and piano while Springsteen sang.

Coldplay is now known for occasionally surprising guest appearances during the tour. Only a day earlier, also at the “Met-Life Stadium”, Kylie Minogue suddenly entered the stage. Together she sang her dance-pop classic “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” with the band. Coldplay are also stopping in Germany for their “Music of the Spheres” tour. Here are the concert dates.
