Brobbey understood Kudus base place: “But now expect me to play”

Brian Brobbey was allowed to start back in the starting lineup for the first time in over a month. The number 9 of Ajax immediately scored two goals during the 7-1 victory over Excelsior. Brobbey understands that he had to slow down in recent weeks, but expect that he will be back at the kick-off in the coming weeks.

Unlike his trainerBrobbey sat cheerfully in the press room. It helps that he had scored twice just before that, because if that doesn’t work, “Well, Brian isn’t happy, no,” Brobbey said of himself. “Even if we win. If he doesn’t score, he’s not happy”

Comeback

It also helps that Brobbey lives in Amsterdam again. “That’s fantastic, I enjoy it. I am now more often with friends and family. They support me and give me confidence. It only makes you better.”

Brobbey, who was bought back from RB Leipzig for 16 million euros this summer, has made few minutes in recent weeks. This was mainly due to Mohammed Kudus, who has been a striker in recent games and scored a few important goals. “We have a good competition. He does his thing, I do my thing. We only make each other better.”

Concept

And because Kudus was in top form, Brobbey understood that he had to sit on the bench for a while. “Kudus scored almost every game. If I did, I wouldn’t think it fair if the trainer then takes me out. So I understood the choice of the trainer.”

But last night Brobbey was back in the starting lineup. And with two goals in his pocket, he hopes to stay there for the time being. “I now expect that I will play, yes. What I just said: if a striker scores, you should not just take him out.”
