Britzer Mühle is looking for hobby millers

Müller offspring urgently wanted! The 157-year-old Britzer mill will continue to be used for many generations to come. That’s why the “Britzer Müllerei” association is looking for hobby trainees again this year.

“It’s not a traditional education. We also sit together a lot and make coffee first thing in the morning,” says former dentist Klaus Hennemann (68). He has been with the club for four years and has successfully completed his training.

For this year’s trainees who are interested, an information event will start on April 30th. For the two-year training, meetings are held at the mill every two weeks on Saturdays.

Apprentices learn everything about the restoration, care, maintenance and functioning of the historic mill. It is also screwed regularly and flour is ground several times a year.

“There is always something to do. For example, there is currently storm damage to the blade shaft,” says Hennemann. He and the trainer Michael Schillhaneck (69) are hoping for more young people this year. So far, most of the trainees have been seniors.

After the training, hobby millers can volunteer at the “Britzer Müllerei”. In addition to maintenance, guided tours are also part of the association’s task. There are also seminars for children where flour is ground and bread is then baked.
