British retail picks up again

UK retailers fared better again in April. The industry’s sales increased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month, as the statistics office ONS announced on Friday in London. Analysts had expected weaker growth of 0.3 percent. The increase follows a sharp decline in March.

In the three-month period up to April, revenues increased by 0.8 percent. This is the highest increase since the summer of 2021. In April itself, sales of both food and other goods increased. Gasoline revenues at filling stations increased significantly. On the other hand, online trading was only able to expand its business slightly. (dpa)
