Want to spend a night in the new guest house of the Meilandjes in Noordwijk? Only people with a well-filled wallet can do that. For a minimum stay of two nights, you will spend more than 400 euros for most rooms. And the entire website of the guest house indicates that guests should not expect too much.

No interaction

It is self serviceemphasize the Meilandjes on the guest house site. “In the drinks corner you can find several foods and drinks. You can scan and pay for this yourself using our cash register system,” it says, for example.

And also: “We choose to keep interaction with our guests to a minimum because we want them to feel at home.”

TV connoisseur Rob Goossens finds the latter particularly hilarious. He howls in the BLVD Podcast: “Hahahaha.”

‘Martin? No, Leroy!’

Only at breakfast does a Meilandje help with the service every day. “They want to meet those guys, but not all day,” concludes Luuk Ikink.

Rob: “No, they don’t want to meet the guests at all, but they know they can’t get out of it.”

Luke: “I think it’s annoying. You come there and you hope that Martien is there and then who is at breakfast? Leroy. That seems annoying to me.”

‘Lots of money’

Bridget Maasland thinks the boarding house is ridiculously expensive. “Let’s be honest: it is now said that it is for two nights, but of course it is still a lot of money to stay somewhere where you do not know what it will look like.”

Luke: “Yes. What exactly you book is unknown, because when you go to the site there are not really pictures of the rooms or anything. When I book something, I always go to Booking.com to see what the room looks like.”

Bridget: “Yeah, but I think with them it’s mostly name, right? That you have the idea that you are coming to the Meilandjes.”

Luuk: “That can sometimes be disappointing, because it is a ’boutique service hotel’.”

Cucumber slices

Rob also thinks it’s too expensive. “Yes I agree. And then they say, “Keep contact to a minimum.” Yes, come on! When you spend that much money, you just want to lie on your bed with two cucumber slices on your eyes and have everything done for you, right? Then you don’t want to go to a refrigerator yourself where you have to hold a card against it, do you?”

Bridget: “Self-service! Then I’ll go to a hotel where all that is done for me. It’s a guest house, isn’t it? For a guest house, I also think the amounts are high.”
