For the last time Fokke Spoelstra (66) stands behind the panel in the bridge keeper’s house. He puts his keys in the ignition and starts the opening procedure of the Juliana Bridge.
He was a bridge operator for 38 years and he said goodbye on Monday. Not only from his work, but also from ‘his’ Julianabrug. The 54-year-old bridge will be demolished. On Monday, Fokke opened it one more time: ‘This is a special moment, it’s a real honor for me.’
