The bridge sections would initially be replaced at the end of August, after which the top layer still had to be applied to the pedestrian path. However, those works would require the temporary stairway and ramp to be demolished, which would cause inconvenience to the people using the bridge. It was therefore decided to apply the top layer first and only then to replace the bridge parts.
