Brian Bogers on the podium in the MXGP for the first time: ‘I am speechless’

Motocross rider Brian Bogers has taken the podium of a grand prix in MXGP for the first time. The 25-year-old from Eindhoven finished third in the Grand Prix of Portugal after a second place in the first moto and a fourth place in the second race. The victory went to Spaniard Jorge Prado, who had won the first moto and finished second.

Slovenian Tim Gajser won the second moto. Bogers was just ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff from Oss with his third place. He finished fourth after a fourth and third place.

“I am speechless,” said Bogers. “It’s been such a long road to get here and now I’ve finally finished third.” Bogers is eighth in the world championship with 97 points. Coldenhoff is fifth with 109 points. Gajser leads with 186 points, 21 more than Prado.

It was a strong comeback from Bogers, who had to miss the Argentina Grand Prix two weeks ago due to a shoulder injury. He already finished fourth in the Grand Prix of Lombardy.

Jeffrey Herlings is also not there in Portugal. The reigning world champion is still not fully recovered from a foot injury. The Portuguese Grand Prix is the fourth race in the World Cup.

Kay de Wolf next to the stage
Kay de Wolf from Eersel finished just off the podium in the Portuguese Grand Prix in the MX2. After finishing third in the first moto, the 17-year-old driver finished sixth in the second race. Husqvarna’s rider dropped out with an injury two weeks ago at the Argentina Grand Prix but recovered in time to compete at the dusty Agueda track.
