Brembo Sensify towards its debut on production cars: what it is and how the system works

Sensify by Brembo takes a concrete step forward towards its affirmation as not only a future but a current standard. The global leader communicated that the intelligent braking system by wirei.e. without physical connections, entered production for a major vehicle manufacturer (identity unknown). Sensify will thus be the standard braking system on all models included in the program, a step that demonstrates the maturity of the platform for mass adoption on a large scale. “Sensify – explained Daniele Schillaci, CEO of Brembo – supports safer mobility and, at the same time, paves the way for the next generation of vehicles software-definedin line with our long-term goal of contributing to an accident-free future”. But what is it and what is the potential of Brembo’s Sensify system?

The one created by Brembo is a braking system that uses electrical signals and individual actuators to manage the braking action. The transfer of the pressure exerted on the brake pedal via the classic hydraulic fluid to the calipers and discs is therefore missing. There gives up a physical connection between the decisions of the driver and the change in the behavior of the car gives various advantages. Since driving is entrusted to an intelligent electronic system, namely Sensify, this can optimize the driver’s decisions thanks to a very large series of data that are collected and processed by the “electronic brains” of the system in fractions of a second, elements that come from the vehicle’s control units, the sensors and the surrounding environment. The objective, as stated by Schillaci, is increase safetyeliminating – ideally – the number of road accidents.

The benefits of adopting Sensify increase as the grip between the tires and the road surface decreases. Precisely control the incisiveness of the braking action on the individual wheel as the Brembo system allows you to maximize adhesion available and consequently to have a more stable and manageable car in emergency situations and on irregular or low-grip surfaces. Beyond the independent control over the individual wheels, which some traditional braking systems also possess but which Sensify manages to make more incisive thanks to the speed of the electronic impulses, the Brembo system has notable processing and learning capabilities. Through the analysis of driving data, the system is able to identify the driving style, preferences and habits of the driver, adapting braking and pedal response to what the driver wants and expects. Technological and safety progress is fine, but maintaining driving pleasure is part of Sensify right from the name: it derives from “sense”, the ability through which we perceive an external stimulus, and “simplify”, the simplicity of installing an innovative system.
